Antenna Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Antenna is a bug, insect and spider identification app developed by Egemen Günel (“we”, “us”, “our”). Antenna lets you point your camera at a bug, tells you whether it is likely to be dangerous, shows what is active near you, and answers questions about a species with an AI assistant.

2. Antenna at a Glance

• No sign-up. Antenna has no login and never asks for your name, email address or phone number.
• Your photos stay on your device. Bug identification runs entirely on your iPhone or iPad. The photos you take or pick are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
• No ads and no tracking. Antenna contains no advertising SDKs, does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not sell your data.

3. Information We Collect

Anonymous Identifier. When you first open Antenna, the app creates an anonymous account with our backend provider. This gives your installation a random identifier that is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID. We use it to secure requests to our servers and to match your subscription to your device.

Location. If you allow location access, or choose a place on the map or by search, Antenna uses those coordinates to show which bugs are active near you, the local weather, and seasonal activity. The coordinates are sent to our server only to look up nearby activity and are not stored against your identifier. Results are cached for an area roughly 25 km across, so that nearby users share the same lookup. Your chosen location is also saved on your device so the app remembers it.

Photos. Photos you take with the camera or choose from your photo library are analysed on your device. Photos of bugs you identify are saved on your device in “Your Finds”. They are never uploaded.

Chat Messages. When you use the AI chat assistant, your messages and basic information about the identified species are sent to generate a reply. See Section 6.

Subscription State. We receive your subscription status (free or Pro) and purchase records from Apple through RevenueCat. We never see your payment details.

Device and App Information. Our subscription and paywall providers receive basic technical information such as device model, operating system version, app version, language and region, along with your anonymous identifier and paywall events (for example, which screen a paywall was shown on).

Data Stored Locally on Your Device. Antenna keeps your finds, your selected location, notification preferences and similar settings on your device. A count of identifications used on the free tier is stored in the iOS Keychain. None of this local data is accessible to us.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to identify bugs on your device; show local activity, weather and seasonal information for your area; answer your questions in the chat assistant; schedule the notifications you turn on; manage your subscription and enforce free-tier limits; and respond to your support requests.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any party for advertising or marketing purposes.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We work with the following providers. Each receives only the minimum data required for its function. None of them receive your photos.

• Supabase provides the anonymous account and hosts our server functions. It receives your anonymous identifier, the coordinates of your selected location, species names, and chat messages passing through to the AI provider.
• iNaturalist provides observation data and species photos. Our server sends it the coordinates of your selected location to find nearby observations. These requests come from our server and carry no information about you.
• OpenRouter and Anthropic power the AI chat assistant. They receive your chat messages and a short description of the identified species.
• Apple (WeatherKit and MapKit) provide weather for your selected location and turn coordinates and place searches into place names.
• RevenueCat manages subscription entitlements, receiving your anonymous identifier, App Store purchase records, and device information.
• Superwall handles paywall presentation, receiving your anonymous identifier, paywall events, and device information.
• Apple App Store processes all payments. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple and we never see it.

6. The AI Chat Assistant

When you ask a question about a species, your messages in that conversation are sent with the species’ name, scientific name, hazard level and a short summary to our server, which forwards them to OpenRouter to generate a reply with an Anthropic Claude model. No photos, location or identifying information are included.

We do not store your chat conversations on our servers. On your device, a conversation is kept only while the app is running. OpenRouter and Anthropic process the messages under their own privacy policies and API terms; Anthropic does not use API data to train its models by default.

Do not include personal information in chat messages. If you do not want your messages processed by these services, simply do not use the chat feature; everything else in Antenna works without it.

All communication between Antenna and our servers is encrypted over HTTPS. Requests to our server functions are authenticated with your anonymous session. Antenna contains no advertising SDKs, analytics trackers, or behavioural profiling tools.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you become aware of a security concern, contact us immediately at antenna@egemengunel.com.

9. Deleting Your Data

Most of your data lives only on your device. Uninstalling Antenna removes your photos, finds and settings.

To have your anonymous account identifier and any related records deleted from our backend and our subscription providers, email antenna@egemengunel.com. Deleting these records does not cancel an active subscription; cancel it in your Apple ID settings.

10. Your Rights

Access and Deletion. You can ask what data we hold about your anonymous identifier, or ask us to delete it, by emailing antenna@egemengunel.com. We respond within 30 days.

Location. You can turn off location access at any time in iOS Settings and choose a place by search or on the map instead.

EU / EEA and UK Residents (GDPR). You additionally have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, to data portability, to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

California Residents. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

11. Children’s Privacy

Antenna is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Because Antenna has no sign-up, we do not collect names, email addresses or other contact details from anyone. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the chat feature, contact us and we will delete what we can.

12. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Antenna offers a free tier and a paid subscription called Antenna Pro. Pro unlocks unlimited identifications, the AI chat assistant, and detailed local activity reports.

All payments are processed exclusively through Apple’s in-app purchase system. We do not collect, store, or have access to any payment card or billing information. Apple’s privacy policy governs all transaction data.

Antenna Pro is an auto-renewing subscription. It renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID settings. Refunds are handled by Apple. You can restore previous purchases from the Profile screen.

13. Device Permissions

• Camera — to identify bugs. Camera frames are processed on your device and never uploaded.
• Location (while using the app) — to show activity and weather near you. Optional: you can pick a place instead.
• Photo Library (add only) — to save share cards you create. Antenna cannot read your library through this permission; photos you pick to identify are chosen through the system picker, which only gives Antenna the photo you select.
• Notifications — for the activity, weather and reminder notifications you turn on. These are scheduled on your device.

Antenna does not request access to your microphone, contacts, calendar, or health data.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you within the app. Continued use of Antenna after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
